1940s. On the immediate right of the Aurora Entrance was one of Playland's crown jewels. About six people got into a boat which went up a steep incline to a height of 61 feet. At the top, the boat made a hairpin turn toward a downward slope and was released from the chain. Then, coasting in free-fall, the boat gained speed until it hit the big pool of water at the bottom. Water sprayed as the boat coasted to a gentle stop. Photo courtesy of Seattle Post Intelligencer and donated by Kay and Hal Schlegel.
