1950s. Shoot the Chutes at Playland

About six people could fit into a Shoot the Chutes boat which went up a steep incline to a height of 61 feet. At the top, the boat made a hairpin turn toward a downward slope and was released from the chain. Then, coasting in free-fall, the boat gained speed until it hit the pond of water at the bottom. Water sprayed as the boat coasted to a gentle stop. In the background is the Pedal Boat Ride and the dance hall and roller rink, later called the Casino.
