Aug. 20, 1953. Contrary to popular belief, neither Playland nor the Dipper burned down that fateful day in August 1953. The clouds of black smoke rose from the Mystery House, Old Mill, Restaurant and park office, all of which contributed tiner-box contents and tarred roofs to provide fuel for the blaze.
