1931. Panorama of Playland Amusement Park

1931. Panorama of the new Playland Amusement Park. It was the last "trolley park" to be built in the United Sates, so-called because it was a destination one could reach by riding the Interurban electric trolley. Playland had its own stop, listed right on the Interurban timetable. Although the trolley closed in 1939 depsite the crowds traveling to Playland, the Park could still be easily reached by car, as it was conveniently situated next to the glorious new Highway 99. With lots of parking, and a separate Speedway for race cars as a bonus, it quickly became a hedonistic escape for the auto-driving masses. Photo is courtesy of Jim Sneddon.
